Governor attends Kendriya Satriya Sanskriti Divas at Dhemaji
Underscores the importance of Sadou Asom Satra Mahasabha to preserve the timeless traditions of the state and foster harmony among communities

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today attended the Kendriya Satriya Sanskriti Divas organised by the Sadou Asom Satra Mahasabha in Dhemaji.

Speaking on the occasion while conveying his greetings to the functionaries and expressing his joy for being part of the ceremony, the Governor said that Satriya Sanskriti Divas is an occasion that honours the spiritual and cultural legacy of the state. He noted that the occasion serves not only as a celebration but also a heartfelt tribute to the rich heritage shaped by Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva, whose timeless contributions continue to inspire unity, equality, and devotion across Assam.

The Governor highlighted how the philosophy of “Eka Sarana Nama Dharma” brought together Assam’s diverse traditions and laid the foundation of a cultural unity that remains central to the state’s identity. He acknowledged the enduring role of the Sattras and Namghars as vibrant centres of spirituality and cultural consciousness, hailing the Assam Sattra Mahasabha for its dedication to sustaining the timeless traditions while adapting to contemporary needs. He appreciated the Mahasabha’s efforts in linking more than 1200 Sattras and nearly 11,000 Namghars, and nurturing cultural awareness among youth through seminars, workshops, training camps, and various development programs.

Shri Acharya noted that some educational institutions in the state, reflecting their visionary step are doing well in integrating traditional knowledge with modern education. Recalling the words of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi who said, “When you connect your soul with cultural consciousness, you witness the vast form of India”, the Governor emphasized that the Sattras stand as a testament to preserving national pride and human values. He moreover said that the country is experiencing a golden era of cultural renaissance, guided by the Prime Minister’s vision of “Vikas bhi, Virasat bhi,” a philosophy that sustains the balance between development and heritage.

The Governor praised Assam’s devotional art forms like Borgeet, Naam-Kirtan, Sattriya dance etc describing them as essential elements of the state’s spiritual ethos. Speaking about Sattriya dance, Shri Acharya said that the dance, recognized as India’s eighth classical dance form, embodies the artistic glory of Assam. He acknowledged ongoing efforts by the Sadou Asom Satra Mahasabha to preserve the timeless traditions of the state and foster harmony among communities.

Urging upon the younger generation, Shri Acharya encouraged them for active participation in Sattra activities, deeper engagement with the works of Srimanta Sankardeva and Sri Sri Madhavdeva. He also underlined the importance of creative initiatives like research, digital media, and international collaborations to take Assam’s cultural heritage to global platforms. He thanked the office-bearers of the Assam Sattra Mahasabha, Satradhikars, artists, and participants for their dedication to safeguarding the state’s cultural identity and ensuring its continuity for future generations.

The event was attended by President of Assam Sattra Mahasabha and Satradhikar of Uttar Kamalabari Sattra Janardan Dev Goswami, Working President Jadumoni Dev Goswami, Satradhikar of Shri Shri Dakshinpat Sattra Nanigopal Dev Goswami, Principal of D.H.S. Kanoi College Dr. Sashikant Saikia, along with several other dignitaries.
