Governor attends closing ceremony of 12th Senior National Rugby 7s Championship

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today attended the closing ceremony of the 12th Senior National Rugby 7s Championship 2025 held at the Indira Gandhi Athletic Stadium in Guwahati.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya hailed the championship as more than just a sporting event, calling it “a powerful exposition of youth energy, discipline, teamwork, and dedication.” He applauded the exceptional display of sportsmanship, dedication, and competitive spirit showcased by athletes throughout the tournament.

Governor Shri Acharya emphasized the broader value of sports, noting that games like rugby nurture qualities such as strategic thinking, team coordination, and resilience—skills that are essential in both sports and personal life. He reiterated the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who has consistently championed the transformative power of sports in building a strong and vibrant nation.

The Governor also highlighted the proactive role of the Assam Government in promoting sports across the state. Initiatives such as the Khel Maharan event, establishment of rural training centers, new stadiums, and targeted financial support for athletes are creating pathways for local talents to shine on national and international stages.

He on the occasion encouraged the youth to embrace both victory and defeat as learning experiences which according to him will be a force to shine in life. Governor Shri Acharya praised Rugby India and the Assam Rugby Association for their exemplary efforts in organizing the championship and fostering the spirit of sportsmanship.

It may be mentioned that the final match was played between West Bengal and Haryana where West Bengal won.
