Governor attends 7th convocation of Institute of Indian Information Technology, Guwahati

Calls upon students to build a viksit, inclusive, and self-reliant India

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today attended the 7th convocation of the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT), Guwahati, held at the IIT-G campus here today. As many as 264 students were awarded degrees in the convocation ceremony.

Addressing the convocation, Governor Shri Acharya congratulated the graduating students and commended the faculty and administration for their dedicated efforts in establishing IIIT Guwahati as a centre of academic excellence in the Northeast. He remarked that convocation ceremonies are moments of pride, marking the culmination of hard work and the beginning of a new chapter in the lives of students.

Highlighting the growing relevance of the information technology sector in the 21st century, the Governor noted that IT is a powerful catalyst for communication, education, business, and innovation. He emphasized its pivotal role in national development, stating that digital transformation is propelling India towards becoming a global technology leader.

Shri Acharya cited Indian-origin tech leaders such as Sundar Pichai and Satya Nadella as global inspirations, and encouraged graduates to embrace similar paths of innovation, leadership, and impact. “You are not just entering the workforce—you are entering in to an era of technological transformation,” he said.

The Governor praised IIIT Guwahati, which was established in 2013, for rapidly building a strong academic and ethical foundation aligned with the National Education Policy 2020, and fostering research in emerging fields such as Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, and Quantum Computing.

Governor Shri Acharya urged the students to address global challenges like data privacy, environmental sustainability, and digital inequality with responsibility and ethical integrity. “With great power comes great responsibility. Let innovation be guided by human values,” he added.

Hailing India’s strides in digital infrastructure—from UPI to space missions—the Governor underscored the importance of digital literacy initiatives such as the Pradhan Mantri Gramin Digital Saksharta Abhiyan, which aim to bridge the digital divide across rural and urban India.

He called on the graduating students to align themselves with the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision laid out by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, to contribute actively to building a developed, inclusive, and self-reliant India.

Shri Acharya invoked the legacy of Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, urging students to dream big, work hard, and serve both the nation and humanity. “This convocation is not the end—it is the beginning of a future, defined by excellence and service. Assam is proud of you, India believes in you, and IIIT Guwahati will always stand by you,” he said.

Vice Chancellor of Banaras Hindu University, Prof. Sudhir Kumar Jain, Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Institute Satyavrat Dey, Director, Prof. Sarat Kumar Patra, Registrar, Dr. Pallav Baruah, Members of the Governing Board and Senate Deans, faculty members, and officers of all departments were present in the convocation.
