Governor attends 4th Convocation of Assam Science and Technology University
Asks ASTU to make special strategies for implementation of NEP with special emphasis on science and technology
Guwahati, Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Shri Gulab Chand Kataria and Chancellor of Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU) said that the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is the first education policy of the 21st century, which presents a comprehensive plan towards reshaping the educational ecosystem of the country from pre-primary to higher education. Addressing the 4th convocation of the University at Srimanta Sankara deva International Auditorium in the city today, the Governor said that educational institutions need to make effective strategies and make sincere efforts to ensure effective implementation of the education policy. He said that ASTU needs to spearhead a special strategy to implement the policy with special emphasis on science and technology, research and development with focus on inter-disciplinary and multi-disciplinary approach in the coming days. The Governor said that ASTU should also take initiative to strengthen the ecosystem of science and technology for the development of human resources. Highlighting the technological proliferation, the Governor said that never in human history such rapid technological change and ubiquity of technology was seen. Technology has changed every human activity. As the youth easily get attracted to technological development, he advised the ASTU to help the students to understand the coordination of technology and social aspects in a healthy way. The Governor said that it is heartening to see that the students with the help of the able guidance of ASTU have made their unique identity in the field of technical education with their hard work. He said, “I sincerely hope that the University will continue to pursue its mission with its commitment and values and encourage all to strive for the progress of society”. Shri Kataria expressed happiness to note that the ASTU is focusing on Diploma, Undergraduate, Postgraduate, PhD courses in specialized areas of Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Management etc. It is a commendable step by the University to pay special attention to research and innovations while designing its courses and curriculum in line with the needs of the times, the Governor added. Congratulating the graduates, the Governor said that the convocation marks the outcome of their commitment, hard work and perseverance. Further, wishing the degree holders for the new phase of their life Shri Kataria also urged them to work towards the betterment of the society and the nation. It may be noted that a total of 2422 students consisting of Ph.D, Post Graduate and Under Graduate levels have passed out for the session 2022 – 2023, received their degrees in various disciplines in the convocation.
