Disaster management related Mock Exercise Scenario in non-aviation domain held in LGBI Airport 

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: A two days disaster management related Mock Exercise  based on multi hazard scenario in non-aviation domain was conducted on November 18 & 19,  2025 at Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, Guwahati. The exercise was  organized in alignment with the Airport Emergency Plan and the guidelines issued by National  Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) and Assam State Disaster Management Authority  (ASDMA).  

 

It was a joint activity by NDMA in collaboration with Guwahati International Airport Limited  (GIAL) and supported by other stakeholders like ASDMA, NDRF, SDRF, DDMA (Kamrup  Metro and Kamrup Rural), BSF, CISF, Health, PHE, PWD (Building), Water Resources etc.  to evaluate the strength and co-ordination among stakeholders for effective response during an  aviation emergency.  

 

The full scale mock exercise was executed at the operational area of LGBI Airport following a  pre-defined aviation emergency scenario which includes:  

  1. Activation of Airport Emergency Plan. 
  2. Information Dissemination to the DEOC, DDMA, Kamrup (Metro) from AECC.
  3.  Deployment of Response Forces. 
  4. Mock Exercise on Earthquake Scenario, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN), Fire incident and different search and rescue skills were  demonstrated. 

Speaking on this occasion, Smt. L. Sweety Changsan, IAS, Addl. Chief Secretary, Revenue &  DM Department, Govt. of Assam and Chief Executive Officer, ASDMA during chairing the  de-briefing session today said that it was an engaging exercise giving the stakeholders the food  for thought on strengthening preparedness plan, coordination and capacity to face the  emergency situation. Mock exercises of such nature should be organised more often so that  stakeholders imbibe the practice of emergency planning and operations reaching to the most  affected areas during any disaster. 

The exercise was followed by a de-briefing session also identifying the gaps during the exercise  that to be addressed through continuous capacity building, revision of emergency SOP’s and  multi-agency mock exercise. The debriefing was also attended by Major General (Rtd.) Ajay  Kumar Verma, Sr. Consultant, NDMA, New Delhi, S. S. Panwar, DIG, BFS, senior officials  from NDRF, GIAL, Dr. Jiwan Krishna Goswami, ACS, Co District Commissioner (CDC),  Jalukbari, Kamrup, the senior most officials of all the stakeholders departments of the Assam  government.
