Delay of Six Years Triggers Demand for Explanation from Contractor and Engineers
M. Hashim Ali, Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta- Although the BJP-led government under Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma has been actively pursuing the development of sports infrastructure in the state, the slow progress of the multi-purpose sports project in Dibrugarh has left the Chief Minister visibly displeased. During his visit to the under-construction sports complex located at Khanikar Bypass, which has remained incomplete for the past six years, the Chief Minister demanded an explanation from the contractor and engineers responsible for the project. The contractor assured that the remaining work would be completed within six months, but Dr. Sarma expressed skepticism and concern over the slow pace of progress. After inspecting the site, the Chief Minister directed that the project must be completed within a year, stating, “Given the magnitude of the work, it is impossible to finish it in six months. Hence, I have instructed the completion of Dibrugarh’s multi-purpose sports project within one year.” The project, whose foundation stone was laid during the tenure of former Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, has faced significant delays. Dr. Sarma voiced dissatisfaction with the contractor’s performance and stressed the need for timely execution.Additionally, the Chief Minister reviewed the progress of the BJP’s regional office being constructed in the scenic area of Jiban Phukan Nagar in Dibrugarh. He also interacted with BJP leaders and workers during his visit. Prominent individuals present during the visit included Ministers Jogendra Mohan and Bimal Bora, MLAs Ponakan Baruah, Binod Hazarika, Chakradhar Gogoi, Taranga Gogoi, and Terash Gowala, along with officials such as Deputy Commissioner Bikram Kairi and Dibrugarh Municipal Corporation Mayor Dr. Saikat Patra.
