Dibrugarh Science Society Observed Birth centenary of Dr.Jyoti prasad Medhi and Dr. Bangshi Baruah

M Hashim Ali,Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta-  Assam Science Society, Dibrugarh Branch observed the birth anniversary of Dr.Jyoti Pd.Medhi and Dr.Bangshidhar Baruah on October 20 at Kanoi College .In the same function Dr.Faruk Ahmed ,the former Principal of Assam Medical College was felicitated for his contributions in the medical field and also for his brilliant career. The function held in association with Dibrugarh Hanumanbox Surojmal kanoi College , was presided over by the president of the Society Dr. Bharati Dutta. Purpose of the meeting was explained by the Secretary Nasir Sultan. Lighting of lamp in front of the photographs of the two scientists were initiated by Dr. Paramananda Mahanta, retired professor, Dibrugarh University and the advisor of the society. Mangalacharanam was performed by the artist  Irani Barpujari. Dr. Kamaleswar Dutta,former Professor and Head in the.Dept.of Statistics, Dibrugarh University, gave an elaborate speech on the  life and contributions of late Dr J.P.Medhi ,  the renowned Statistician . The proud son of Dibrugarh was the Head of the Dept.of Mathematics and Statistics in Gauhati University. He also established the  Population Research Centre in the university. His text books are accepted in foreign Universities. Dr.Medhi’s  younger brother Dr.Rama Prasad Medhi also spoke on the occasion.The other speaker Dr.Jagadish Mahanta,former Director of ICMR, Lahoal and an eminent scientist, spoke on the achievements of late Dr. B.D.Barua at length. Dr.Mahanta gave a detailed Picture of works of this eminent figure of Pathology. Dr. Paramananda Mahanta, spoke on Dr.Baruaha’s dedication  in his works. Dr.Faruque  Ahmed ,another proud son of Dibrugarh,was given  warm felicitation by the Dibrugarh Science Society. His citation was read by the president which reflected his extraordinary career in medical profession. His tireless efforts in eradicating Small Pox was highly recommended. Dr.Ahmed was felicitated by some other organisations like  Centre for Islamic Studies Dibrugarh, Lekhika Samaroh,Dibrugarh Branch, Manav  Kalyan sansghta, Ahom Royal Society etc. Dr.Dilip Bhuyan and journalist Ikbal Ahmed also spoke on the occasion.  Dr.Bharati Dutta, in her Presidential remarks expressed her feelings saying that life and works of all these three renowned scientists  should be made available via writings specially to the new generation and for that writers should come  forward to shoulder this responsibility.
