Celebrating the Legacy of S.D. Burman: A Melodious Tribute to the Maestro

“S.D. Burman Memorial Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award 2024” was conferred to Assam’s heartthrob Zubeen Garg

Guwahati, Rongili Barta- In a heartfelt tribute to one of India’s most iconic music legends, Byatikram MASDO hosted an enchanting evening in honor of Sachin Dev Burman, a name synonymous with Indian music’s golden era. Held at thePragjyoti ITA Center, Machkhowa, the event brought together dignitaries, music enthusiasts, and renowned artists for a night dedicated to celebrating Burman Dada’s lasting influence on Indian cinema and music.

The evening commenced with a ceremonial lighting of the lamp by distinguished Chief Guests, His Excellency, the Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Lakshman Prashad Acharya, and His Excellency, the Hon’ble Governor of Telangana, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma. Joined by esteemed guests, including Smt. Seema Biswas, Actor; Smt. Manisha Hazarika, Eminent Singer; Smt. Krishna Baruah, ACS, Commissioner & Secretary, Panchayat and Rural Development, Assam; Prof. (Dr.) Sangeeta Tripathi, Director of NERIM Group of Institutions; Shri Siddharth Kishore Dev Verman, Chairman, MPSC, Manipur; Shri B. Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya and Hon’ble Governor of Telangana, Shri Jishnu Dev Varma both spoke about the profound impact of S.D. Burman and Bharat Ratna Bhupen Hazarika’s music on Indian culture and the arts. Their addresses underscored the importance of preserving such legacies for future generations.

President of Byatikram MASDO, Dr. Saumen Bharatiya, warmly welcomed the gathering and reflected on the enduring appeal of S.D. Burman’s compositions. “S.D. Burman’s music continues to captivate listeners, transcending time and generations,” Dr. Bharatiya remarked. “Through this event, we celebrate not just the music but the spirit of a maestro who shaped Indian music as we know it.”

Highlighting the evening was the prestigious S.D. Burman Memorial Byatikram Lifetime Achievement Award 2024, presented to the iconic singer, songwriter, composer, and actor Shri Zubeen Garg, for his remarkable contributions to Indian music. Shri Garg, in his acceptance speech, expressed gratitude and shared how S.D. Burman’s melodies have been a guiding influence in his own musical journey. The celebrated singer performed ‘Sunn Mere Bandhu Re’, a beloved and enduring song from SD Burman’s musical legacy mesmerizing the audience present in the auditorium.

The night featured spellbinding musical performances by renowned singers Tithi Debbarma from Tripura, Subasana Dutta; Chitralee Goswami, Manoj Kashyap, Joy Chakraborty, Jayati Bhattacharjee Debnath, Pranita Talukdar, Priyanjali Das, Saparja Dhar, Mandolin performance by Shri Kuntal Raj Chakraborty and a few dance Performances by the artists of SD Burman Govt. Music College, Nrityangan Dance Academy and Tanisha Dutta. The program was concluded with two chorus performances leaded by Proloy Roy and Suvendu Banerjee with some of S.D. Burman’s timeless compositions. Their soulful performances created a nostalgic atmosphere, transporting the audience back to the golden era of Indian music.

The event concluded with a Vote of Thanks and a rendition of the National Anthem, leaving attendees moved and inspired by the timeless legacy of a true musical visionary.
