M. Hashim Ali,Dibrugarh,Rongili Barta- With the Assam Legislative Assembly elections drawing closer, political parties have begun preparing their strategies. After the Prime Minister and the Union Home Minister recently addressed large public meetings in Dibrugarh, the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has once again turned its focus towards uniting the youth. With this objective, the party organised a Youth Conference through its main youth wing, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, at the Old High School playground in Dibrugarh. The conference was attended by the organisation’s National General Secretary Baibhav Singh and Minister Prasanta Phukan. Also present at the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha’s Youth Conference for the 88 No. Dibrugarh Legislative Assembly Constituency were district president Sagar Sonowal, state vice-president Bidyut Gogoi, chairman of the Dibrugarh constituency election committee Madhurya Nath, along with other party workers. Addressing the gathering of nearly three thousand youths, including many first-time voters, Singh highlighted various development-oriented schemes of the BJP and spoke at length on the party’s vision and achievements. It is noteworthy that Prasanta Phukan, who has been elected four times from the Dibrugarh constituency, is hopeful of once again securing the party ticket. Although several new faces have emerged in the Dibrugarh constituency, Phukan continues to remain the only strong contender in the area. Having played a significant role in establishing Dibrugarh as one of the BJP’s strongholds, Phukan is this time placing special emphasis on mobilising youth power.
