BHUMI PUJAN PERFORMED FOR NEW MULTIPURPOSE FLOOD SHELTER IN  MAJULI  

Majuli, Assam, Rongili Barta- In a significant step toward bolstering the  disaster response infrastructure of Assam’s heritage hub, the auspicious Beginning of  Construction Work (Bhumi Pujan) for a state-of-the-art New Multipurpose Flood  Shelter was ceremonially performed today at Village Bengana Kalia, under the Majuli  Revenue Circle.  

The ceremony was graced by Smt. Meenakshi Das Nath, ACS, Additional CEO of the  Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) and Project Director, AIRBMP,  alongside Shri Ratul Chandra Pathak, ACS, District Commissioner of Majuli. This  project is being implemented under the Assam Integrated River Basin Management  Program (AIRBMP), a flagship initiative dedicated to reducing flood risks across the  state.  

Speaking on the occasion, Smt. Meenakshi Das Nath emphasised that the flood  shelter is designed to be a versatile community asset. Beyond providing a safe haven  for flood-affected citizens during the monsoon season, the facility will serve the  community’s diverse needs and activities throughout the year.  

Shri Ratul Chandra Pathak, ACS, District Commissioner, highlighted the strategic  importance of establishing such facilities in highly flood-prone areas. He further  underscored the necessity of continuous community support and active monitoring to  ensure the successful and timely completion of such vital infrastructural interventions.  The event marks a milestone in the Government of Assam’s ongoing efforts to  integrate modern infrastructure with grassroots disaster preparedness.  

The event was also attended by the CEO of DDMA; the Circle Officer, Shri Trilokya  Pegu; Executive Members of the Mising Autonomous Council; and senior officials  from both DDMA and ASDMA. Notable social workers Shri Deba Mudoi and Shri  Kishore Gam were also present to mark the occasion.
