Assam Linguistic Minorities Development Board Celebrates 163rd Birth Anniversary of Rabindranath Tagore

Guwahati,Rongili Barta-  The Assam Linguistic Minorities Development Board, Government of Assam, is set to celebrate the 163rd birth anniversary of the illustrious poet Rabindranath Tagore. The grand event will take place from June 21st to 23rd at Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev Kalakshetra, Panjabari, Guwahati, culminating with a special program on June 23rd, graced by Assam’s Chief Minister, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, as the Chief Guest.

The state-level final selection process for Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindra Nritya will commence on June 21st and 22nd at 2 PM, featuring participants selected from a pool of over 3,000 contestants from 19 centers. A total of 228 contestants have been selcted to the final round. The Board has emphasized that only pure Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindra Nritya will be accepted, excluding any remixed versions. Additionally, performances will include Assamese translations of Rabindra Sangeet by Navkant Barua and Dilip Sharma.

The final competition will take place on June 23rd at 4 PM at the Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium, Guwahati. The Hon’ble Chief Minister of Assam, Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, will attend as Chief Guest, alongside Environment and Forests Minister Chandramohan Patwari and Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Piyush Hazarika.

The evening will feature a cultural program and a prize distribution ceremony. Esteemed guests include Sattriya exponent Anita Sharma, musicians Rupam Bhuyan, Mausumi Saharia, Bhaswati Bharti, and dancer Atreyi Chakraborty.

Chairperson Shiladitya Dev, addressing a press meet, announced, “The Assam Linguistic Minorities Development Board will cover all travel and accommodation expenses for the finalists from various districts participating in the event at Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardev International Auditorium. The expenses will be reimbursed directly to the contestants’ bank accounts.”

Winners of the final round will receive certificates and cash prizes as follows:

  • Category A: 1st Prize – Rs. 10,000, 2nd Prize – Rs. 7,000, 3rd Prize – Rs. 5,000
  • Category B: 1st Prize – Rs. 15,000, 2nd Prize – Rs. 12,000, 3rd Prize – Rs. 10,000
  • Category C: 1st Prize – Rs. 21,000, 2nd Prize – Rs. 18,000, 3rd Prize – Rs. 15,000

The photos of the winners will be featured in various regional daily newspapers of Assam. The press meet was attended by Chairperson Shiladitya Dev and Central Celebration Committee member Dr. Saumen Bhartiya.
