Assam Governor witnesses the finals of  Governor’s Girls Volleyball Mission

Congratulates every participant in the tournament

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Barpeta clinched the Governor’s Girls Volleyball Mission Trophy 2022 beating its arch rival Sonitpur at the final held in DTRP indoor stadium here. The match which was played between Barpeta and Sonitpur was organised by the Sports and Youth Welfare Department. Speaking on the occasion, Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi congratulated all the participants and said that he was extremely happy to witness the final match of the Governor’s Girls Volleyball Mission between Sonitpur and Barpeta district of Assam whereby Barpeta emerged as a winner. Both the teams have reached the finals out of 35 districts and 5453 schools of the state. The Governor also said, “The core vision of this mission was to bring out girls from every village in our State to play to bloom their personality through volleyball. I am glad that the girls have shown unparalleled skills and spirit  towards the game of Volleyball. Each girl who has adorned the spirit of participation and joined hands in this mission is no less a champion. My best wishes to all the players of this tournament. I am sure their remarkable efforts will contribute to Assam’s journey to becoming the Sports capital of the nation.” Sports Minister Bimal Borah in his speech thanked the Governor for conceiving the idea to adopt the volleyball for the girls. He also said that Sports can transform lives by fostering discipline, teamwork, and other virtues. It may be mentioned that in a move to empower girls through sports, Governor of Assam Prof. Jagdish Mukhi launched the Governor’s Girls Volleyball Mission, at  Raj Bhavan on 25th February, 2021.The Mission is a joint initiative of the Sports and Youth Welfare Department, Education Department and Panchayat and Rural Development Department. Commissioner and Secretary to the Governor S.S. Meenakshi Sundaram, Secretary, Sports and Youth Welfare Department Riju Gogoi,  Director of Sports and Youth Welfare  Nibedan Das Patowary, officials of Raj Bhavan and Sports department also attended the final match.
