Assam Governor visits Morigaon district; takes stock of government development initiatives

Shri Acharya interacts with agripreneurs, students and a veteran sports person

Guwahati, Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya visited Morigaon district, took a note of all key developmental initiatives in the district. He also interacted with the beneficiaries, officials, and grass root stakeholders to assess the impact created by the government initiatives among the people.

 

The Governor visited Kumoi Anchalik Secondary School, where he spent time with the students and had mid-day meal with them. He advised the students to have nutritious meal as it would help them to grow both physically and mentally. He also hailed the school authority for providing nutritious food in the mid-day meal. The Governor while having the food with the students, interacted warmly with them and asked them to pursue excellence in academics as well as in co-curricular activities. He also termed them as the future architects of a Viksit Bharat and urged them to work hard with discipline and determination. He also took note of the requirements of the school and assured all help to meet them.

 

The Governor later visited the Amrit Sarovar site at the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Morigaon, where he took note of the ongoing works and directed officials to undertake plantation drives to enhance green cover. Shri Acharya also chaired a review meeting at the KVK with the District Commissioner and heads of various departments. During the meeting, the Governor took stock of the implementation of various Central and State government schemes. He also took note of the differences made by the schemes in the lives of the beneficiaries. Minister Water Resources etc. Pijush Hazarika accompanied the Governor during the visit. The Governor also interacted with beneficiaries under the Gaon Mein Governor initiative which was launched by Lok Bhavan, Assam.

During the visit, the Governor inspected the Tata Semiconductor project site and took stock of the progress of work. He interacted with the site engineers and workers. Considering the transformative role of the project,  the Governor expressed hope that the project would generate employment opportunities, preventing the exit of skilled youth outside the state.

 

The Governor also paid a visit to the residence of Shri Andhuram Das, an 85-year-old veteran sportsperson of Morigaon district, and acknowledged his contribution to sports under the Amar Mati Amar Nayak initiative of Lok Bhavan.

 

Earlier in the day, the Governor visited a fishery production unit at Jagiroad and took stock of the market linkage so that the district, which facilitates increasing fish production in the state can lead the growth of the state in fish production and its economic importance. He also visited Anajori,  a handloom unit, and expressed admiration for the craftsmanship and skill of the weavers. He asked the District Commissioner to facilitate effective market linkages to enable the products reach national and international markets.
