Assam Governor interacts with Kashmiri youth

Asks them to act as messengers of unity, harmony and development

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today interacted with 25 students from the Kashmir Valley who are on a Bharat Darshan tour organised by 13 BN , SSB, Dignibal (J&K) at a programme held at Lok Bhavan.

It may be mentioned that the Bharat Darshan programme is organised annually under the Civic Action Programme by Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) including SSB, CRPF, BSF and others, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police. The initiative aims to give adequate exposure to the Kashmiri youth to the cultural, historical and educational diversity of India by taking them on tours to major cities and heritage sites across the country.

Welcoming the students to Assam, the gateway to Northeast India, Governor Shri Acharya expressed happiness over their visit and appreciated their enthusiasm and spirit of learning. He remarked that although Kashmir and Assam are geographically distant apart, they are emotionally and culturally connected as integral parts of one nation, India. The presence of the students, he said, is a strong reflection of the country’s unity.

Highlighting India’s ethos of ‘Unity in Diversity’, the Governor said that while languages, food habits, attire and traditions may vary, the Constitution, democracy and shared national values bind the people together. He stated that the spirit of Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat is not merely a slogan but a way of life, and programmes like Bharat Darshan play a vital role in strengthening emotional bonds and fostering mutual understanding among the youth of different regions.

The Governor also spoke about the cultural similarities between Kashmir and Assam, including respect for elders, love for art, music and handicrafts, a close relationship with nature and a strong sense of community belonging. He stressed the importance of preserving cultural heritage while embracing modernity. He further highlighted Assam’s contributions to nation-building, from the freedom struggle to defence, security, natural resources and biodiversity, noting that the state stands as a symbol of harmony, tolerance and resilience.

Shri Acharya also said that the youth are not only the present but also the future of India, and the true builders of the nation. He encouraged them to share their positive experiences of Assam with their families and peers back home and act as messengers of peace, harmony and national unity. Emphasizing the role of youth in development, he said education, innovation, discipline and a sense of duty are the foundations of nation-building.

 

The Governor further noted that India today offers limitless opportunities for youth in education, skill development, entrepreneurship, start-ups and sports. He said that the government is continuously working to empower young people and bring them into the mainstream, urging the students to make the most of these opportunities and transform their aspirations into reality.

Stating that India is moving forward as a confident and self-reliant nation, Shri Acharya said every region and every young citizen has an equal role in this journey. He concluded by expressing hope that the Bharat Darshan tour would lay the foundation for lifelong friendships, strengthen emotional unity of the nation and infuse the students’ lives with fresh energy and direction. He extended his heartfelt best wishes for their bright future.
