Assam Governor inaugurates Vivekananda Vidyalaya and Saraswati Vidya Mandir school buildings at Haflong

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today inaugurated the newly constructed school buildings of Vivekananda Vidyalaya and Saraswati Vidya Mandir at Boro Haflong in Dima Hasao district.

The Vivekananda Vidyalaya building has been constructed with financial assistance from the North Eastern Council (NEC).

Speaking on the occasion, the Governor described the occasion as a significant milestone for strengthening the academic landscape of Haflong and other hill districts of Assam. He said that the establishment of modern educational infrastructure in remote and tribal inhabited regions reflects the collective commitment to expand quality education and create opportunities for the younger generation. It also shows utmost priority that the government or civil society has attached to bring the Tribal people to the mainstream of the society.

The Governor expressed happiness for being associated with initiatives aimed at strengthening the education sector in the region. He noted that the establishment of institutions affiliated with Vidya Bharati in Haflong demonstrates a sustained effort to promote value-based education while empowering local communities through knowledge and learning.

Congratulating the Uttar Purvanchal Janjati Seva Samiti and all stakeholders associated with the initiative, Shri Acharya lauded the organisation’s dedicated work over nearly three decades for the uplifting the tribal communities across the North Eastern region. He said the organisation has been playing an important role in bringing development to remote areas by focusing on three critical pillars education, health, and livelihood.

Highlighting the cultural richness of North East India, the Governor said that the region is known for its vibrant tribal heritage, strong community bonds and deep respect for nature. He emphasized that education should not only equip students with modern knowledge and skills but also nurture respect for indigenous traditions, cultural identity and social values.

Referring to the ideals of Swami Vivekananda, after whom the school is named, the Governor said the great philosopher and spiritual leader regarded education as a means to awaken the inner strength and potential of individuals. He remarked that the true purpose of education lies in character building, fostering self-confidence, and developing a sense of responsibility towards society and the nation.

Shri Acharya further said that India’s contemporary education system is striving to harmonise the rich civilisational heritage with modern needs and global aspirations. In this context, he highlighted the transformative vision of the National Education Policy, which seeks to promote learning in mother tongues, strengthen skill development, encourage multidisciplinary education and harness the power of digital technology to prepare students for the future.

Encouraging the students present at the programme, the Governor urged them to cultivate discipline, perseverance and strong moral values. He advised them to embrace innovation and technological advancement while remaining rooted in cultural and ethical principles. He said the youth of today will play a decisive role in shaping the future of the nation and must strive to achieve excellence through dedication and hard work.

The Governor also emphasised the important role of teachers and parents in guiding children towards holistic development. He said that meaningful education emerges when schools, families and society work together to create a nurturing environment that supports intellectual growth as well as moral and emotional development.

Expressing confidence in the potential of the newly inaugurated institutions, Shri Acharya said the schools would serve as centres of learning and character formation, preparing students to contribute positively to society and the nation.

Kumud Devi; Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Nandita Garlosa, Chief Executive Member of the NC Hills Autonomous Council Debolal Gorlosa,  Member of the North Eastern Council Longki Phangcho, General Manager, NPPC Ltd., Dr. Yengkhom Lamjingba Singh; Organising Secretary of Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra Dr. Pawan Tiwari, and Organising Secretary of Vishwa Hindu Parishad, North East, Dr. Dinesh Kumar Tiwari. Several Executive Members (EMs) and Members of the Autonomous Council (MACs) of DHAC were also present.
