Assam Governor inaugurates Samutkarsh Mahashivir 2025

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya inaugurated the three-day ‘Samutkarsh Mahashivir 2025’ programme organized by Vidya Bharati Purvottar Kshetra at Sarusajai Stadium here.

In his inaugural address, Shri Acharya said, “Education is the essence of life. It not only shapes the future of an individual but also plays a crucial role in the progress of the nation and I believe education also envisages in creating good citizens”.

The Governor highlighted the role of education in creating a civilized society. Referring to Aristotle who said that a civilized society is one where good people become good citizens, the Governor said that creating a good system of education amounts to strengthening the foundation of a civilized society.

Shri Acharya also said that India’s ancient education system was highly advanced. It was deeply integrated with Indian culture and wisdom. The primary medium of education in ancient India was “Gurukul”, a unique schooling system where teachers and students would live together, and  exchange knowledge. The main objective of education was to understand different aspects of life and develop intellectual and cognitive skills.

Ancient India was home to renowned centers of higher education, including Nalanda, Takshashila, Vikramshila, and Ujjaini. These institutions provided education in science, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, literature, and various other disciplines.

 

India’s traditional education system emphasized high thinking, self-realization, and service to society. Even today, this legacy of ancient Indian education continues to inspire millions of individuals.

Shri Acharya praised Vidya Bharati’s efforts in promoting holistic development, critical thinking, and compassion among students. He emphasized the need to integrate technology into education, aligning youth development with global demands.

The Governor in this context mentioned about the NEP 2020, the first comprehensive education policy of the 21st century which is the manifestation of symbiotic relationship between India’s traditional values and technological innovations.

The programme was attended by Education Minister Dr. Ranoj Pegu, Mines and Minerals Minister Kaushik Rai, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Lieutenant General (Retd) Rana Pratap Kalita, Chairman NEDFi, P.V.S.L.N Murthy, Patron of Vidya Bharati Arunachal Pradesh, Tai Tagak, National Secretary of Vidya Bharati, Brahmaji Rao, Secretary of Vidya Bharati Northeast Region, Dr. Jagadindra Ray Chowdhury along with a host of other dignitaries.
