Assam Governor attends cultural event “DIVYA KALA SHAKTI’

The event is a manifestation of creativity of Divyangjans: Governor 

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- “Cultural events can contribute to the development of the individual’s creative skills.” said Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi at “DIVYA KALA SHAKTI’ a cultural programme by Divangjan at the Guwahati Medical College and Hospital Auditorium, in the city here. Speaking at the occasion, the Governor said, “I am delighted to be a part of this cultural programme and feel happy for witnessing these special abilities on disability under the name DIVYA KALA SHAKTI- a cultural event which provides a wider and unique platform to exhibit the inner potential of divyangjans in the field of art, music, dance etc.” Prof. Mukhi also said that ever since the government has come to power in the state, the development debate in the state has taken a new paradigm as the government is exceedingly doing well on human development index. The result of this new initiative has been evident on all areas. As a result gap between differently abled persons and others is becoming blurred. Both Central and State Governments have been quite sensitive to the issues related to the welfare of persons with disabilities. Government of Assam has also created a separate and dedicated to the specially abled people. ‘The Directorate for Social Justice and Empowerment’ has been working exceedingly well to address the wellbeing of the elderly as well as the persons with disabilities in a focussed manner. The Governor also said that, cultural events can contribute to the development of the individual’s creative skills. These events provide a platform through which the disabled persons can present their creative, artistic and intellectual capacities. Cultural events play an important role in the development of an individual’s emotional, cognitive and social development. Despite the shortcomings of the participants, their performances strengthen the bond of unity among the group members. It also develops the skill of cooperation and dialogue. The Governor expressed happiness that the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Government of India has selected Guwahati as a centre for showcasing the glorious performance of the children. It may be mentioned that 102 children and youth from different states of India were present to demonstrate their talents including classical, folk and modern and this proves that all the Indians are living in a unity amidst diversity which according to him is the real essence of ‘Aazadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.  A host of dignitaries from Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Govt. of India were present on the occasion.
