Assam Governor attends 8th convocation of KKHSOU
Guwahati, Rongili Barta: Assam Governor and Chancellor of the Krishna Kanta Handique Open University (KKHSOU) Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya attended the 8th convocation of the Varsity here today.

Speaking on the occasion as the Chief Guest, Governor Shri Acharya said that the University is playing a pivotal role in advancing the objectives of the New Education policy 2020 particularly in striving towards achieving a target of 50 percent Gross Enrolment Ratio in Higher Education by 2035.

The Governor while describing the convocation as a defining milestone in the lives of students. He said that this occasion reflects years of perseverance, dedication and accomplishment. He expressed satisfaction that 50 percent of the students come from rural background, with about 60 percent of them being women, highlighting inclusive reach and social commitment of the institution.

Paying tributes to the noted Educationist Krishna Kanta Handique on this occasion the Governor said his life exemplifies the true purpose of Education,that is not only acquisition of knowledge but the cultivation of characters and values.

The Governor said, in the present era, the open and distance learning system has assumed great importance. He observed that this mode of education has immersed as a vital avenue for countless individuals who are unable to access formal education due to various constraints. The Governor stated that flexibility is the core strength of the open and distance learning system, enabling learners to pursue education in a manner suited to their circumstances.

Referring to the evolving Education landscape, the Governor stated that education today goes beyond the traditional boundaries of knowledge acquisition and it must equip the learners with skills, adaptability, and a sense of responsibility to meet the demands of today’s world.

Earlier the Governor conferred the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Science to the noted Neurologist Dr Nomal Chandra Borah in recognition of his contribution in the field of medicine and community health .It is to be mentioned that PhDs were conferred to 22 students, Postgraduate degrees to 12500 students and undergraduate degrees to 4237students.Earlier the Vice Chancellor of KKSHOU Prof. Rajendra Prasad Das delivered the welcome address. The Vice Chancellor,Yashwantrao Chavan Maharastra Open University Prof. Sanjeev Arjunrao Sonawane graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
