ALMDB Celebrates Rabindra Jayanti with State Level Rabindra Dance and Sangeet Competitions, Uniting Communities through Culture

Guwahati,Rongili Barta- On the occasion of Rabindra Jayanti, the second phase of the Rabindra Dance Festival and Sangeet, organized by the Assam Language Minorities Development Board of the Assam Government, concluded successfully in Guwahati. 

The event, held on June 23 at the Mahapurush Shrimant Shankardeva International Theater, was graced by dignitaries including Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary Hon’ble Minister of Forest & Environment, Welfare of Minorities etc. Govt. of Assam; Shri Jayanta Mallabaruah, Hon’ble Minister for PHE, Tourism etc. Govt. of Assam; Shri Mrigen Sarania, Mayor, GMC; Shri Rupak Sharma, MLA, Nagaon; Amalendu Chakraborty, Vice-Chancellor, Rabindranath Tagore University, Hojai; Dr. Numal Momin, Vice-Chairman, Assam Legislative Assembly and others.

The festivities began with the garlanding of Rabindranath Tagore’s portrait, followed by a final selection process and prize distribution ceremony for Rabindra Sangeet and Rabindra Dance competitions. Participants from nineteen cities across Assam competed, with over three thousand contestants vying for recognition. Ultimately, 228 contestants got selected to the state-level competition.

In Rabindra Sangeet category ‘A’, Ananya Chakraborty from Karimganj clinched the first prize, followed by Dwiplekha Devi from Bongaigaon in second place, and Hrid Mallik from Dhubri in third place, with Devanshi Das from Silchar receiving a consolation prize. Category ‘B’ saw Saikat Chakraborty of Guwahati securing first place, Ayushree Das from Nagaon in second place, and Himsumi Goswami from Bongaigaon in third place. In Category ‘C’, Ankita Mitherphancha from Haflong emerged as the winner, followed by Moumika Dev from Hailakandi in second place, and Nilanjana Modak from Karimganj in third place.

For Rabindra Dance, Sujal Bhattacharya from Haflong took first place in Category ‘A’, while Digvi Sharma from Barpeta Road and Vedatrayi Goswami from Hailakandi secured second and third places respectively. In Category ‘B’, Antara Bhowmik from Moriyani claimed the top spot, followed by Dipanvita Dutta from Haflong in second place, and Rupsa Bose from Lumding in third place. Category ‘C’ winners were Tanay Roy from Tezpur in first place, Dipankar Barman from Haflong in second place, and Pappu Singh from Lumding in third place, with Beauty Barua receiving recognition.

Cash prizes were awarded accordingly: Rs 10,000 for first place in Category ‘A’, Rs 15,000 for first place in Category ‘B’, and Rs 21,000 for first place in Category ‘C’, with descending amounts for subsequent places.

Following the awards ceremony, a cultural program featuring renowned figures like Sattriya Exponent Anita Sharma, Atreyee Chakraborty and musicians Rupam Bhuyan, Dr. Mausumi Sahari, and Bhaswati Bharti captivated the audience. Board Chairperson Shiladitya Dev expressed gratitude and pledged to continue celebrating Rabindra Jayanti annually, promoting unity and cultural harmony across Assam.

Tourism Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah emphasized the importance of cultural events in fostering harmony amidst linguistic diversity, echoing sentiments shared by Minority Development Minister Chandramohan Patwary, who commended the event’s role in showcasing Assam’s cultural tapestry.

Rabindranath Tagore Birth Anniversary Celebration Committee Members includes Sushanta Biswas, Vice-Chairperson, Assam Linguistic Minority Development Council, Government of Assam, Dr. Saumen Bharatiya, Dr. Shantanu Sanyal, Rangdulal Dey, Mita Sen, Biswajit Chakraborty, Sujit Sarkar etc..

Dr. Saumen Bharatiya said, “We will make every effort to celebrate this kind of event every year. Apart from Bengalis, contestants from different communities of Assam has participated in the event, which creates a huge potential for building unity and harmony among all the communities of Assam.”

The event concluded on a high note, underscoring its success in uniting communities through the appreciation of Rabindranath Tagore’s timeless contributions to literature and music.
