Governor inaugurates faculty development programme on Indian Knowledge System and Artificial Intelligence

Guwahati,Rongili Barta: Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya today inaugurated a six-day faculty development programme (FDP) on ‘Indian Knowledge System and Artificial Intelligence: A prerequisite blend for 21st Century Education’ at the KBR Auditorium of Cotton University. The programme is being jointly organised by the Inter University Centre for Teacher Education (IUCTE), Varanasi, and Cotton University under the initiative of Lok Bhavan, Assam.

Sharing his observation on the occasion, Governor Shri Acharya said that teaching is a unique profession that goes beyond the transmission of knowledge. It plays a crucial role in shaping personality, values, and social responsibility.

The  Governor underscored the need for a shift towards experiential, learner-centric, and field-based teaching-learning approaches. Referring to the National Education Policy, he said that the new policy is a cornerstone to encourage and promote teachers’ research, and innovation for improving educational quality and nurturing intellectually and morally strong students.

Shri Acharya said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, the National Education Policy has been structured to anchor the Indian Knowledge Tradition and modern science and technology. He stressed on the ethical use of Artificial Intelligence, stating that technology must be guided by human values to ensure inclusive and meaningful outcomes.

Highlighting the relevance of the Indian Knowledge System in the North-East, the Governor said the region’s rich traditional wisdom in culture, ecology, and indigenous practices can offer sustainable solutions when integrated with modern technology.

Quoting Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s words, “True teachers are those who help us think for ourselves,” the Governor expressed confidence that the programme would enrich teachers, encourage collaborative research, and promote innovative teaching practices, thereby strengthening the education system and contributing to the national goal of building a knowledge-based society.

The inaugural programme was attended by Vice-Chancellor, Cotton University Prof. Ramesh Chandra Deka, director, IUCTE, Banaras Hindu University, Prof. Prem Narayan Singh, advisor, Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam, Prof. Debabrata Das; OSD to the Governor Prof. Bechan Lal, faculty members from all the Higher education institutions along with other dignitaries.
