100 education entrepreneurs from across North-East attend “A–Z of Opening a Successful School” in Guwahati
SHEMROCK eyes new branches in Shillong and key Assam towns after strong response
Guwahati; Rongili Barta: More than 100 aspiring and existing school owners from across Assam and the North-East gathered at Hotel Vivanta, Guwahati for a full-day workshop on “A–Z of Opening a Successful School”, conducted by renowned schooling expert Amol Arora, Managing Director of SHEMROCK & SHEMFORD Group of Schools.
Participants travelled from over 25 towns and cities, including Guwahati, Dispur, Kamrup, Silchar, Tezpur, Tinsukia, Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sivasagar, Nagaon, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Karimganj, Jagiroad, Moranhat, Hatsingimari, Sribhumi, Kharupetia, Bijni, Mangaldai, Rowta, Gogamukh, Dhemaji and Hatsingimari in Assam, as well as Shillong and Tura in Meghalaya, Dimapur in Nagaland, Siliguri in West Bengal and Hajipur in Bihar – underlining the growing interest in education entrepreneurship in the region.
During the intensive workshop, Amol Arora walked participants through the entire journey of setting up a school – from choosing the right model and investment level to securing approvals, planning infrastructure, designing academic systems, building a strong brand and creating a sustainable admissions strategy.

The sessions focused on:
- How to open a school with optimal investment and lower risk
- Regulatory and affiliation requirements in the Indian context
- Designing future-ready learning environments and teacher systems
- Creating a no-discount, high-trust admissions strategy
- Avoiding common mistakes that cause new schools to struggle or shut down
Each participant received a practical implementation checklist and had the opportunity to get their specific questions answered in dedicated Q&A segments.
Planned expansion: new branches across Assam & the North-East
Buoyed by the response, SHEMROCK announced that it is actively exploring new branches across the region. Based on the interest generated at the workshop and ongoing discussions, the group is likely to finalise new branches in:
- Within Guwahati city: Maligaon, Hatigaon, Ulubari, Rehabari, Beltola, Khanapara, Airport area and Lokhra
- Rest of Assam: Hailakandi, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Sivasagar, Jorhat, North Lakhimpur, Dhubri, Dispur, Morigaon, Udalguri, Dhemaji, Barpeta
- Outside Assam: Shillong and Tura (Meghalaya), and Faridabad (NCR)
These proposed locations are in addition to SHEMROCK’s existing network of branches in and around Assam, including Baghorbari, Hengrabari, Bamunimaidam, Kahilipara, Dakhingaon, Beltola, Bharalumukh, Barpeta Road, Agia, Kaliabor, Nagaon and Sivasagar.
Speaking at the event, Amol Arora said, “The turnout in Guwahati shows that Assam and the North-East are ready for a new wave of high-quality schools led by committed local entrepreneurs. Our goal is to give them a clear roadmap so they don’t lose precious years – or lakhs of rupees – in trial and error.”
