Assam Skill University declares its upcoming campus at Mangaldai as ‘Single-Use Plastic Free Campus’ on the Eve of “World Environment Day 2025” Signs MoUs with Pentapolis Foundation, Telecom Sector Skill Council and Balipara Foundation
Guwahati, Rongili Barta – In a significant step towards environmental sustainability, Assam Skill University (ASU) has officially declared its upcoming campus at Mangaldai as ‘Single-Use-Plastic Free Campus’ on the eve of World Environment Day 2025.
This announcement aligns with the 2025 World Environment Day theme: “Restore Our Earth: Solutions to Plastic Pollution.” The university’s initiative reflects a broader global commitment to reducing plastic waste and fostering eco-conscious practices.
Announcing the declaration Shri Subhash Chandra Das, Vice Chancellor, ASU stated that “This move is part of our responsibility as the only State Skill University, in the entire eastern region of India, to lead by example in combating the menace of plastic pollution”.
Since its inception, the university has implemented several measures, including eliminating plastic bottles, encouraging reusable alternatives, and setting up awareness campaigns on waste segregation and recycling. The University shall continue to endeavour towards environmental sustainability in coming days too.
In another significant development, the University has signed three important MoUs with diverse stakeholders like Pentapolis Foundation, Chennai, Balipara Foundation, Assam and Telecom Sector Skill Council, under the aegis of Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India. These collaborations reflect ASU’s commitment in ensuring biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, market-ready skilling of youth and workforce for long-term career sustainability.
In a statement, Mr. Sathish Kumar, Director General of Pentapolis Foundation stated that “By combining ASU’s academic expertise with Pentapolis Foundation’s industry-driven training, we are creating a sustainable pathway where skill development directly translates into employment and economic empowerment.”
On this occasion, Ms. Karishma Ahmed, Chief Communications Architect, Balipara Foundation, stated that “This collaboration between Assam Skill University and Balipara Foundation is the need of the hour. It is rooted in a shared vision to create meaningful exposure for the youth, linking skills with sustainability. Community-based tourism, has long been a cornerstone of this partnership. Together, we aim to build immersive learning experiences where students engage directly with the communities we work with, gaining firsthand insight into conservation, culture, and livelihoods in the Eastern Himalayas.”
The MoU between ASU and Telecom Sector Skill Council, Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Government of India, centres around the need for development of course curriculum and offer internship and on-job-trainings in telecom sector. Besides, Telecom Sector skill council will also lend support in research and development, incubation and placement support to the students. These events were graced by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor, Shri Subhash Chandra Das, IAS (Retd.) and Md. Hanif Noorani, ACS, Registrar, Assam Skill University along with faculty and staff members, Assam Skill University.
