Assam occupies a pride place on the industrial map of India: Governor
Guwahati,Rongili Barta- Assam Governor Prof. Jagdish Mukhi said that the North Eastern part of the states has been a priority area of development for the Central government as the dispensation in the helm of affairs is taking several path breaking initiatives for the development of the region. Speaking at the diamond jubilee celebration organized jointly by All India Manufacturers’ Organization(Assam State Board) and Assam Productivity Council in Tinsukia today, Governor Prof. Mukhi said, “Prime Minister’s Development Initiative for North-East, PM-DevINE is a real game changer towards development of North East”. The Governor said that the scheme with its financial outlay have the potential to create infrastructure, support industries, social development projects and create livelihood activities and employment for youth and women. The Governor said that All India Manufactures’ Organization (AIMO) has been instrumental in creating an environment for co-operation between Government and Industry. It has also been promoting and co-coordinating industrial and economic growth in Assam. AIMO is also spearheading the industrial growth for the empowerment of the people of the state. The Governor said, “Ever since, work on Act East Policy began under the leadership of our Prime Minister in the year 2015, economic development in the Northeast has received a tremendous impetus. The Prime Minister launched the Act East Policy with a vision to promote the economic cooperation, cultural ties and developing a strategic relationship of our country with the ASEAN through continuous engagement at bilateral, regional and multilateral levels.” He said that under the dynamic and visionary leadership of the Prime Minister, North-Eastern region is witnessing rapid industrial growth. He said that the Prime Minister has given a new hope, energy and force to the people to give a paradigm shift to development in terms of connectivity, infrastructure and development of the North East. Prof. Mukhi also said that manufacturing sector has emerged as one of the high growth sectors in India. The Make in India campaign has created huge employment and self-employment opportunities for the youth. Under the Make in India campaign work is being done towards making India a Global Manufacturing Hub. “We want the share of manufacturing in our GDP to go up to 25 per cent in the near future. The day is not far away when India can claim to be the largest manufacturing hub in the world,” the Governor said. It may be mentioned that All India Manufacturers’ Organization (AIMO) was founded by Bharat Ratna Sir. M. Visvesvaraya. The organisation over the years has established itself as a body committed to industrial growth with the motto “Prosperity through Industry”. The Governor also expressing his words of appreciation for State Productivity Council said that toeing the line of National Productivity Council, the State Productivity Council was set up to spread the movement productivity at all corners of the state. He said that both organizations Assam Productivity Council and All India Manufacturers’ Organization (Assam State Board) have done exceedingly well to promote industrialization in Assam and achieve higher efficiency and productivity during the last six decades. Assam now occupies a pride place on the industrial map of India. Their 60 years journey to promote industrialization and productivity in various sectors of the economy is indeed laudable and appreciable, Prof. Mukhi added. First Lady of Assam Prem Mukhi, Chairman of All India Manufacturers’ Organization M.P. Agarwal, Chairman of Assam Productivity Council B.P. Bakshi, Deputy Commissioner Tinsukia Narsing Pawar, Superintendent of Police Tinsukia Gaurav Abhijit Dilip, Director and Head NPC, Guwahati Rajat Sharma along with a host of other dignitaries were also present in the function.
