Governor attends Prag Prerona Award 2026
Pays tributes to role of women in empowering the nation
Guwahati, Rongili Barta: On the eve of International Women’s Day, Assam Governor Shri Lakshman Prasad Acharya, presented the Prag Prerona Awards 2026 to nine distinguished women, who have made remarkable contributions in their respective fields. The awards were conferred at a function held at a city hotel here today.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor expressed immense pride for being part of the ceremony and extended his heartfelt congratulations to all the awardees. He said that the event was a vibrant celebration of creativity, national spirit and cultural excellence. He appreciated Prag TV for creating an inspiring platform through the Prag Prerona Awards to recognize and honour women whose outstanding work continues to impact the society positively.
Lauding the occasion, the Governor noted that celebrating the achievements of women on the eve of International Women’s Day carries special meaning, as the day reminds society of the invaluable role women play in the progress of humanity, the nation and civilisation.

Drawing from India’s rich cultural heritage, the Governor said that Indian tradition accords equal importance to Shiva and Shakti, symbolising the indispensable role of women in the cosmic and social order.
Referring to the Vedas, Upanishads and the epics, he said that women have always been revered as sources of strength, compassion and wisdom. In Indian culture, goddesses such as Parvati, Durga, Lakshmi and Saraswati represent nurturing power, morality and knowledge, highlighting the deep respect accorded to women.
He further said that throughout the history, women have guided society towards progress through the power of their knowledge and determination. In the contemporary era too, women are achieving new milestones in education, science, arts, administration, entrepreneurship, sports and social service. Given opportunities and trust, women can consistently prove their ability to transform challenges into achievements, he added.

The Governor also referred to the vision of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, who has emphasized that women’s empowerment is central to the mission of building a Viksit Bharat. He said that the Prime Minister has described women as the strength of the nation, underlining that empowered, secure and independent women are vital for the country’s development.
Expressing special pride in the women of the Northeast, particularly Assam, the Governor said that they are making outstanding contributions across diverse fields through their talent, dedication and resilience. Their growing social and economic participation is a source of inspiration, he noted, adding that in several parts of the region, matriarchal traditions reflect a deep-rooted cultural respect for women and their role in decision-making.
The Governor said that the objective of the Prag Prerona Awards is to acknowledge women who are bringing positive transformation to society and inspiring future generations. Honouring women achievers, he said, is not only a recognition of their success but also a tribute to their perseverance, dedication and the motivation they provide to society.

The Governor observed that as India moves rapidly towards becoming one of the world’s largest economies, greater participation of women in the workforce is essential. Ensuring equal opportunities for women in education and employment, he said, will play a crucial role in realising the nation’s development goals.
Sharing his experiences of attending convocation ceremonies at universities across Assam, the Governor said that girls are consistently demonstrating exceptional academic performance and leadership. With the right opportunities and encouragement, he said, the daughters of the country can achieve extraordinary success.
He expressed confidence that an empowered, self-reliant and dignified woman forms the true foundation of a developed India. The vision of a Viksit Bharat, he said, is a collective commitment that can only be achieved through the active participation and empowerment of women.

Encouraging the awardees, the Governor urged them to continue moving forward with confidence, dedication and hard work, and keep contributing to the progress of society and the nation.
The Governor also congratulated Prag News for its remarkable initiative and lauded the channel for its 26-year journey as one of the leading private television networks in Northeast India. He expressed confidence that the channel will continue to play an important role in promoting social awareness and positive change.
