4 Blood Component Separation Units inaugurated

Rongili Barta- Every drop of blood is valuable and therefore to ensure that there is no wastage of blood donated by the donors, blood banks of 4 nos of hospitals namely Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital, Mangaldai Cvil Hospital, Darrang, SMK Civil Hospital, Nalbari and BP Civil Hospital, Nagaon were equipped with Blood Component Separate Units (BCSU) which were today centrally inaugurated by Minister of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of Assam, Shri Keshab Mahanta at Lakhimpur . In a glittering ceremony at Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital, the Minister after inaugurating the BCSU, said, “The merit of Blood Component Separation Units is that the whole blood collected from one donor can save many lives,” adding that people especially the youngsters should come forward and donate blood. He further said that Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital will soon have a super speciality block. Speaking on the occasion, Lakhimpur MLA, Manab Deka said, “ The performance of the Blood Bank of Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital has been very good and there is a collection of 300 plus units of blood.” He also appreciated the efforts taken by the officials of the blood bank which has been frequently conducting voluntary blood donation camps. The inauguration ceremony was graced by dignitaries and officials including Hon’ble MLA Lakhimpur LAC, Shri Manab Deka, Deputy Commissioner Lakhimpur, Shri Sumit Sattawan, IAS, Director Assam State Blood Transfusion Council (ASBTC) Pomi Baruah, ACS, Executive Director, NHM, Dr Manoj Kr Choudhury, Dr AK Das, Principal, Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital, Dr Bobyjeet Goswami, Superintendent, Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital, Dr Nitumani Khakhlari, Professor & In-charge Blood Bank, Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital and Dr Bikash Kumar Singh, Assistant Professor, Blood Bank, Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital. It may be mentioned that Blood Component Separation Unit of Lakhimpur Medical College & Hospital is the first BCSU in whole of the North Bank of Assam. The componentseparation service through BCSU is that the whole blood can be separated into 3 or 4 components which can be given to multiple patients according to their needs and thereby minimising the wastage of blood and also saving the lives of multiple patients by a single donor. There were 8 nos of Blood Component Separation Units in Assam till 2021-22. This year Govt. of Assam has upgraded another 4 nos of existing licensed Blood Bank to BloodComponent Separation Units along with Lakhimpur Medical College Hospital Lakhimpur. Govt. of Assam has also completed the work for upgradation of another 5 nos. existing licensed Blood Bank to Blood Component Separation Units (BCSU) at Kanaklata Civil Hospital, Sonitpur, Tinsukia Civil Hospital, Tinsukia, K.K. Civil Hospital, Golaghat, SM Dev Civil Hospital, Cachar and Dhubri Medical College Hospital, Dhubri which will become functional shortly.
