Chandra Mohan Patowary attends ASSOCHAM’s 5 th edition of ‘Emerging North-East 2022’

Dispur, March: Industries and Commerce Minister Chandra Mohan Patowary attended the 5 th edition of ASSOCHAM’s ‘Emerging North-East – 2022’ at Maniram Dewan Trade Centre today. Speaking on the occasion, Industry Minister Patowary called upon the industrialists to invest in Assam by availing the opportunities offered by policies and schemes of the Department. ‘Assam has enjoyed a rich historical status of being an industrious state by dint of its tea, oil and coal industry. It also used to have a multi-modal connectivity network. But post-Independence situation resulting in partition disrupted the vibrant trade routes.’ Thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his thrust and initiative in positioning Assam as the gateway to ASEAN, he said, ‘Assam is now seen as the ideal staging point for doing business with the ASEAN and Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.’ The Minister stated that development in infrastructure and connectivity sectors is a must for industrial growth of a region. In this context, he referred to the new terminal at Guwahati Airport, Multi Modal Logistic Park, Jogighopa and other initiatives of the government for development of railways and waterways to make Assam the preferred destination for businessmen and investors.

Patowary further asked the banks to extend support in financing the entrepreneurs in the micro and small enterprises. He also asked the industrialists to set up EV manufacturing units and avail the benefits of the state’s EV policy. The minister assured full support and cooperation to all the industrialists interested for
setting up of business establishments in the state.

Patowary also inaugurated an exhibition and interacted with industrialists present in the programme. Dr. KK Dwivedi, Principal Secretary, Industries and Commerce; PVSLN Murty, CMD, NEDFi; RS Ramesh, CGM, SBI; Pradeep Shrivastava, Executive Vice-President, YES Bank; Vinit Kumar, Chairman, Shyama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust and Mahendra K Agarwal, Chairman, ASSOCHAM were present in the meeting.
